A few years ago, I was visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico, tracing my great-grandfather's heritage, while visiting my relative's ranch, when I stumbled upon the most wonderful shop selling olive oils, vinegars and salts–I was intrigued. I ordered four boxes and had them shipped home. Flying home I kept mulling over in my mind that there wasn't anything like this shop in the greater Harrisburg area and I couldn't wait till my boxes arrived to taste and cook with all the wonderful oils and vinegars. I thought a vinegar and oil tasting room would be fun and widely embraced by locals and fine chefs alike. The rest is history.

I started with a smaller shop and expanded to include pastas, soups, flavored pepper blends and rubs, seasoned salt, and so much more. The shop has become the go-to spot for chefs and those in search of a variety of olive oils and vinegars. Stainless fustis - think big vats - with taps hold the oils and vinegars which are then dispensed into the signature Tastealotta labeled bottles.

Now with the larger shop, I've expand our product line which now includes more than 30 vinegars and 40 olive oils. In addition, there are spice mixes, pottery, fresh pasta, slow cooker soups, salts, and pepper rubs and more.

We encourage our shoppers to sample before they buy. Our inventory covers the globe from Tuscan herb and Persian lime olive oils to aged pure maple vinegar and aged coconut balsamic vinegar.

"People really want to enjoy cooking more. Our demographic runs from 80 year olds to the teenager and to young people just starting out," Huber said.

In addition, Tastealotta has hosted sit-down Munchie Monday cooking classes on Monday evenings with local chefs, such as Ron Canady of Char's at Tracy Mansion in Harrisburg and Caputo Brothers Creamery in Spring Grove.
